REG seeks bright, high-energy corporate attorney with a base of experience for a Corporate Counsel position for the leading U.S. biomass-based diesel company. We are seeking candidates with a minimum of 3 years corporate legal experience and ideally 5+. Experience in the biofuels, energy, chemical, biosciences or agricultural industries is helpful, but not required. Must desire to become a master of detail as well as have the ability to work in a dynamic and growing legal team, both inside and outside the company. Strong team skills required.

This position is responsible for completing, directing, coordinating and supervising legal activities of major importance to the corporation’s long-term future. This person will be responsible for drafting and reviewing contracts, identifying and resolving business and legal risks, advising on regulatory matters, coordinating intellectual property matters, preparing agency filings, assisting with international business activities, and be actively engaged in the Company’s mergers and acquisitions.

These activities are typically highly confidential, may be enterprise-wide in scope and involve frequent interaction with both internal and external parties including REG’s Senior Leadership Team, REG’s technical, manufacturing and operational staff, external C-level management, universities, outside legal counsel and others.


This individual will be responsible for managing a wide variety of general corporate matters, contract review and negotiation, dispute resolution, document management and other legal activities with accountability for meeting timelines, budgets and project objectives.

Analyze legal contracts, complex transactions including mergers and acquisitions, and financial instruments and report and communicate on legal matters to C-level management and other parties.

Apply legal knowledge to areas of concern and utilize formal problem solving techniques to develop and implement solutions.
Maintain cross-organizational relationships with key personnel, including Production, Procurement, Quality, Sales, Risk Management and other internal departments to align departmental efforts and priorities with overall company objectives. Cultivate a collaborative, creative, results-oriented work environment across departments.


Ability to identify and evaluate legal issues, design execution plans in consultation with others and bring projects to closure

Ability to communicate effectively with others throughout this process to ensure alignment with company objectives and the availability of required resources

Strong oral and written communication/organizational skills

Maintain a calm, professional demeanor especially during demanding situations

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Ability to design, create, implement, track and report on work via project management systems

Demonstrate attention to detail

Encourage, support, and develop employee skills and knowledge through your provision of legal services

Work independently or as a team as needed to achieve the required results

May include travel in support of business opportunities or other legal matters, including visit to partners or prospective partners, including international travel

Provide personal contact information on an as needed basis for official business purposes


Education Required: Law degree with strong academic credentials and active bar admission.

Experience Required: Minimum three years legal experience in a general corporate or related practice, preferably with strong background in contracts, complex transactions including mergers and acquisitions, financial instruments, and some experience with compliance, dispute resolution, intellectual property, and real estate. Related fuel, agriculture, biosciences or chemical industry experience a plus. Experience at top-tier law firm and/or as company in house counsel is preferred.

Skills Required:

Strong legal analysis, synthesis and communication skills required. Decision-making, oral and written communication, organizational, analytical, and leadership skills are required with superior attention to detail. Project management, formal problem solving required.
