Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE:

The purpose of this job is to support the network infrastructure environment by assisting in identification of network requirements, performing installations and upgrades, and performance monitoring of network systems. This position is also responsible for assisting with network security administration.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

Network Administration

  • Administer and support the network and connectivity of workstations and servers across a multi-location environment
  • Design, develop, document, test and modify network infrastructure technology based on user or system performance needs
  • Install, upgrade and configure new hardware and software such as:  switches, routers, WIFI devices, firewalls, storage systems, phone systems, operating systems, network cabling, and other related equipment
  • Identify network utilization patterns and recommend, install enhancements and operating procedures that optimize network availability and uptime
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network problems by identifying root causes and then determining solutions
  • Responsible for the application of systems analysis techniques and procedures, including consulting with REG users and IT Administrators, to determine hardware, software and network specifications
  • Establish and perform maintenance programs following company and vendor standards
  • Document network problems and resolutions for future reference
  • Anticipate communication and networking problems and implement preventative measures
  • Ensure timely user notification of network maintenance requirements

System Security

  • Assist in the planning and implementation of network security, including administering firewalls, applying cryptography to network applications, and managing host security
  • Ensure successful implementation and maintenance of security standards complaint with I.T. security policies and regulations
  • Support networking security services in LAN, WAN, and Internet network infrastructure
  • Provide technical support and consultation for enhancement of, and change to, network security configuration
  • Monitor key system logs
  • Monitor and prevent, to the best of the company’s ability, the proliferation of viruses and hacker intrusion
  • Execute network penetration and vulnerability scanning
  • Implement mobile device management (MDM) security for all company cell phones
  • Install software patches on all switches, routers, firewalls, and network infrastructure devices

Other frequent duties:

  • Travel to remote sites located across the USA and Europe
  • Participate in an on-call rotation
  • Perform other duties as assigned

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Required: Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree – Computer Engineering or related technology degree

Experience Required:  4+ years in a multi-location environment

Skills Required

Solid understanding of LAN/WAN concepts, switch and router administration

Solid understanding of IP Networking concepts

Solid understanding of Cisco network protocols and best practices

Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory

Knowledge of Windows Server 2008-2012

Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange 2010


Special skills or knowledge preferred:

CCNA

MCSE

Firewall and VPN administration

VMWare server technologies

Control System network integration experience in a manufacturing environment
