Job Description

Position Summary

Perform design work, simulations, equipment sizing, procedure writing, and documentation for new plant designs.  Assist in monitoring key performance indicators for an operating plant and troubleshooting deviations from design performance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The duties of the position include but are not limited to:

  1. Produce process simulations and special process studies.
  2. Analyze output, operating costs, and process costs for various plant configurations to support feasibility and screening studies.
  3. Produce process design packages including utility summaries, equipment and instrument data sheets, PFDs and P&IDs for commercial and pilot plant applications.
  4. Analyze alternative process designs to determine cost effective alternatives to existing processes.
  5. Review engineering designs by outside contractors for conformance to specifications and technology.
  6. Prepare presentation materials and makes presentation on design elements of the process.
  7. Design new plant modifications to existing facilities and complete management of change (MOC) forms to initiate installation.
  8. Conduct reviews in response to engineering questions relating to the process technology.
  9. Monitor performance of plant and coordinate with operations to correct any deviation from desired performance.
  10. Create and update operating procedures

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education

A Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering is required.

Experience

One to three years experience in modeling and evaluation utilizing process simulation software experience (HYSIS) and spreadsheet software is required.

Skills

  1. Well-developed analytical skills to analyze and interpret scientific data when designing and evaluating production processes. 
  2. Good written and oral communications skills to communicate with senior management and the engineering and research and development staff.
  3. Ability to operate a computer and technical software and commercial software (MS Office).
