Job Description


Maintains the server environment by identifying server requirements; installing upgrades; security updates, monitoring and maintaining system performance to meet the business and user requirements. 


Server Management

  • Administrator for the server environment
  • Install, configure, and manage servers, network cabling, and other related equipment, devices, and systems
  • Investigate server or application issues, identify their source, and determine and implement solutions
  • Document server problems and resolutions for future reference
  • Identify utilization patterns and their effect on operation/system availability and performance expectations.
  • Anticipate system and application problems and implement preventative measures.
  • Establish and perform maintenance programs following company and vendor standards.
  • Ensure timely user notification of maintenance requirements and effects on system availability.
  • Investigate, recommend, and install enhancements and operating procedures that optimize network availability.
  • Evaluate and/or recommend purchases of server hardware, peripheral equipment, and software.
  • Design and deploy high availability solutions using Netapp, VMware, and Microsoft technologies to meet SLA uptime requirements defined by management.
  • Design and deploy data backup/recovery system to ensure recoverability of key business data in the event of an unexpected disaster or system outage
  • Design, deploy, and maintain an email archiving system.
  • Administer and configure an Exchange 2016 email system to be highly available across two geographically separated data centers. 
  • Assist related technology groups to integrate applications into Active Directory.

System Security

  • Assist with system security planning, developing, and implementing security policies across multiple platforms.
  • Ensure successful implementation and maintenance of the defined security standards.
  • Ensure compliance with I.T. security policies.
  • Support networking security services in the server and data environment.
  • Plan and implement server security, including applying and maintaining security patches.
  • Help manage security devices, such as the firewall, VPN, etc.
  • Provide technical support and consultation for enhancement of, and change to, server and network security configuration.
  • Monitor key system logs.
  • Monitor and prevent to the best of the company’s ability the proliferation of viruses and hacker intrusion.
  • Provide personal contact information to customers on an as needed basis for official business purposes 

Other duties:

  • Infrequent travel to remote sites located across the USA and Europe 
  • Participate in an on-call rotation
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Education Required: Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree – Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related technology degree

Experience Required: 5-10 years in a multi-location environment

Skills Required

Solid understanding of Windows Server 2008-2016 components              

Solid understanding of Microsoft Active Directory, GPO’s and SCCM

Solid understanding of NetApp and EMC Enterprise storage system

Solid understanding of Microsoft Exchange 2016                                      

Solid understanding of Microsoft SQL 2008-2016                              

Solid understanding of VMware Vsphere 5.x – 6.x

Knowledge of Skype for Business                                                     

Knowledge of Sophos Endpoint Antivirus and Data Encryption Tech

Knowledge of ITIL Foundations 

Certifications Preferred: 



VMware VCP


Netapp NCSA, 

ITIL Foundation

Control System network integration experience in a manufacturing environment
