Job Description


The purpose of this job is to effectively coordinate biodiesel operations, develop operating procedures, train operators and assist with process safety management program elements to contribute to overall company profitability and customer relations while maintaining clean, safe, and well-kept facilities.


  • Oversee the production in the biodiesel manufacturing plant and Truck Load out
  • Follow all safety guidelines regulated by REG, OSHA, or other regulatory agencies.  Serve on REG safety committee and conduct regular biodiesel department safety meetings.  Lead Safety discussion topic at the start of each shift.  Ensure all assigned Inspections are completed and documented
  • Develop, implement, and revise standard operating procedures to ensure compliance with process safety management standards
  • Develop, implement, and coordinate operator training and certification process to ensure compliance with process safety management standards
  • Support process safety management systems including, but not limited to, management of change, process hazard analysis, process safety information, mechanical integrity program and work permitting process to ensure compliance with process safety management standards
  • Operate the biodiesel master computer system. This includes operations of the main master control, process production system along with recording data and generating system reports on a timely basis
  • Adhere to process parameters to run facility consistently across shifts
  • Perform various quality control functions on oil, biodiesel, glycerine, fatty acid, and water, visual inspection of all types of inventory, measuring physical inventory on a periodic basis and operation of  lab equipment according to procedure.  Ensure all assigned Inspections, Tests and Samplings are Accurate, Complete and documented
  • Contribute to manufacturing, packaging, and the loading of specialty oil products
  • Responsible for training of shift employees and the maintenance of individual training documentation
  • Ensure all on shift are cross trained
  • Facilitate Shift Hand Off Meeting.  Ensuring a complete information exchange
  • E-mail Shift report to Management group at end of each shift
  • Complete and distribute Daily Production Report (DPR)
  • Develop working knowledge of PI and provide training to others
  • Oversee the issuing of all permits pertaining to shutdown work or other non-routine work
  • Maintain on-call schedule / Insure coverage when needed
  • Maintain and communicate Maintenance needs - Log all Issues or requests
  • Perform physical inventories and assure accuracy
  • Maintain Scaffold Inspection Certification
  • Assist in the maintenance and/or development of all Work Instructions
  • Assist in the maintenance and/or development of all Process Information (Ex. PFD’s, P&ID’s)
  • Main point of communication between operators and management
  • Notify management of personnel issues
  • Perform all types of general facility maintenance and housekeeping, including equipment inspection, repairs, adjustments and monitoring throughout the facility
  • Monitor and continually improve quality control in all aspects of biodiesel operation
  • Make recommendation on improving production efficiency at the facilities and assist in the implementation
  • Develop at least one process improvement idea per year (present it to management, implement improvement)
  • Ensure an acceptable plant appearance is maintained (neat and clean) for potential and existing Renewable Energy Group (REG), Inc. customers.  Maintain Houskeeping of Building, Grounds and Production Units.
  • In the absence of the Production/Support Supervisor, direct and manage daily operations
  • Ensure adequate stock of operational supplies based on production needs and schedule
  • Preform other duties as assigned


Education required: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience required: 3 to 5 years general work experience preferred. Previous chemical processing or related experience preferred.

Skills required: General knowledge of computers, basic mechanical and electrical skills, and attention to detail.
