Job Description


The purpose of this job is to develop, implement and maintain effective and profitable petroleum and biomass based diesel blended fuel sales and customer service with petroleum and biodiesel customers, distributors, and manufacturers. Completes all relevant functions required to develop and support a national distributor organization in order to achieve market leadership, customer satisfaction, and profitable growth through the marketing/sales team.


Develops and implements strategic marketing plans and sales plans and forecasts to achieve corporate objectives for petroleum products and services to include strategies to expand biodiesel sales through blended petroleum sales to maximize downstream blended fuel sales

Research markets to identify new and expanding territories to sell REG branded petroleum products while simultaneously developing necessary infrastructure to support sales of biodiesel blended fuels

Negotiate and secure petroleum supply contracts to supply targeted markets while maximizing profitability of petroleum sales and securing effective margins 

Manages business development effort with major petroleum producers to draw attention to REGs capability to provide an integrated business solution

Develops and manages petroleum and biodiesel blended fuel sales/marketing operating budgets

Develops and recommends product positioning, and pricing strategy to produce the highest possible long-term market share and profitability

Evaluates and recommends petroleum terminals and sales regions to increase REG petroleum and biodiesel blended fuel sales

Achieves satisfactory profit/loss ratio and market share in relation to preset standards and industry and economic trends

In coordination with corporate affairs/marketing, plans and recommends advertising and promotion activities associated with petro sales including print, online, electronic media, and direct mail

Ensures effective control of marketing results, and takes corrective action to guarantee that achievement of marketing objectives falls within designated budgets

Oversees and evaluates market research and adjusts marketing strategy to meet changing market and competitive conditions

Assist in development of testimonials, field trials, and other related advertising/research activities

Monitors competitor products, sales and marketing activities

Establishes and maintains relationships with industry influencers and key strategic partners

Guides preparation of marketing activity reports and presents to executive management

Directs sales forecasting of petroleum products and helps set performance goals accordingly

Represents company at trade association meetings to promote REG petroleum and fuel products

Coordinates liaison between petroleum sales department and other sales units

Analyzes and controls expenditures of division to conform to budgetary requirements

Prepares periodic sales report showing sales volume, potential sales, and areas of proposed client base expansion

Analyze potential distributors for selection of strong strategic partners to maximize the distribution of petroleum and blended biodiesel products

Provide technical information to customers, dealers, producers, and other employees through meetings and one-on-one contact, as needed

Meets with key clients, assisting sales representative with maintaining relationships and negotiating and closing deals

Make sales calls and recommendations for present and new customers regarding petroleum and biodiesel blended fuel sales

Develop strong business relationships with distributors and downstream fleet customers

Be familiar with office procedures, facilities, and overall operations to effectively facilitate accomplishment of distribution and sales goals

Assist in handling customer complaints related to product performance, misuse, and shipment loss claims, etc.

Participate in technical, sales, and other types of training, and share information with others

Develops human and technical resources to create an environment that promotes continuous improvement and quality outcomes resulting in enhanced petroleum sales/logistics processing capability for affected departments & REG staff members


Education Required:  Bachelors Degree in Sales, Marketing or Business preferred with a minimum of five years related experience with progressive managerial responsibilities

Experience Required:  3-5 years Petroleum/Biodiesel marketing and distribution related experience.

Skills Required:  Basic math skills, oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, ability to perform business functions, sales ability; ability to “close” a sale, technical skills related to biodiesel production, and interpersonal skills to build a trust relationship with manufactures, distributors and final customers.
