Job Description


The purpose of this position is to lead, be responsible for and continuously improve the safe, smooth and efficient operation of the biodiesel plant operations that improves profitability, efficiency and customer service.


Responsible for managing all aspects of Biodiesel production including:

Lead a culture of safety.  Follow all safety guidelines regulated by REG, OSHA, or other regulatory agencies

Monitor and continually improve quality control in all aspects of biodiesel operation

Demonstrate a positive personal and professional image in representing the Company in local, statewide, and national arenas

Meet all compliance requirements of environmental permits and regulations

Plan and schedule biodiesel production to meet customer and intra-company demand in the most efficient manner

Oversee BQ-9000 Quality Management System

Assist with budgeting and monitor labor and other expenses in the biodiesel plant

Improve production efficiency at the facilities and implement processing changes and implement new technologies as directed

Plan and budget for new projects related to biodiesel production

Serve on the safety committee and conduct regular biodiesel department safety meetings

Ensure Process Safety Management (PSM) program is complete and consistently implemented

Work closely with Procurement and Sales to maintain inventories at levels to assure service with a minimum of delivery delays, yet maintain inventory turn goals

Work through REG Human Resources to employ, train, evaluate, motivate, and lead employees

In coordination with the Group, General Manager, develop an annual operating budget, which includes objectives, an operating budget, and a capital budget

Other frequent duties

Prepare the following reports as required: a) Biodiesel inventories - daily, b) Biodiesel Production reports - daily, c) Quality control reports - weekly, d) Plant operations metrics – monthly f) Manufacturing report – weekly g)Maintenance reports - as requested, h) Housekeeping reports - as requested, and any other reports as requested.

Handle claims and complaints promptly and promote outstanding customer service

Schedule and maintain housekeeping, including maintaining a clean, well-kept appearance in the facility, outside grounds, and equipment

Conduct periodic necessary staff/employee meetings

Perform other duties as assigned


Education Required:  BS in a technical/engineering major and MBA preferred

Experience Required:  3-5 years  direct operations supervision experience, preferably in a continuous process manufacturing environment.  Chemical processing or renewable fuels background a plus

Skills Required:  Basic accounting skills, good written and oral communication, and organizational skills.
