Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE:

The purpose of this job is to timely and accurately perform and continually improve fundamental, project management and field construction activities including tasks related to materials, equipment, quality, safety and project closeout and advance projects by collecting, developing assembling, and providing data and information while maintaining productive working relationships with staff, contractors and vendors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

Key Accountabilities:

Design

  • Develop a thorough understanding of REG’s biodiesel technology and other chemical processing technology businesses
  • Develop initial project concepts and complete a business case analysis for those concepts
  • Develop initial project utility concepts
  • Ability to complete Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (PID’s) for existing and new processes
  • Ability to complete a mass balance for processes and utilities for existing facilities and new projects
  • Lead design meetings with design partners and technology providers
  • Analyze technology partner offerings for incorporation into REG facilities
  • Participate in design review meetings and direct design partners and technology partners in REG facility requirements
  • Develop a thorough understanding of 3D modeling concepts and participate in 3D modeling design review meetings

Closeout

  • Prepare job files including as-built drawings, permit drawings; approved submittals and job files both electronic and paper are stored per company policy
  • Participate in punch list development and completion of outstanding items
  • Sort REG team member files for incorporation into the job record files
  • Obtain all required closeout information (warranties, training, maintenance materials, operations and maintenance (O&M), as-built) in a timely fashion to allow for expeditious completion of the closeout process

Communication

  • Attend regular team and project meetings
  • Draft and issue meeting agenda 24 hours prior to meeting
  • Draft and issue meeting minutes with 24 hours of meeting

Purchasing

  • Distribute contracts and purchase orders for internal REG approval prior to release to contractor or vendor
  • Negotiate purchase orders and contracts up to authority limits
  • Distribute purchase orders or contracts to vendors and contractors
  • Follow up and assure that they are fully executed and returned in a timely fashion
  • Provide input for value analysis or scope reduction/enhancement efforts

Document Control

  • Maintain project documents and electronic document control for easy electronic archival and retrieval

Estimating

  • Assist in conceptual job cost estimate
  • Assist in the development of job cost estimate and capture historical cost information
  • Assist with bid solicitation, reviewing bids and bid strategy

Expediting

  • Develop material/equipment list and track deliveries
  • Obtain verification of purchase from contractor and vendors for major items of equipment showing scheduled shipping or delivery dates

Regulatory

  • Obtain all licenses, permits, and documents necessary to start, build, complete construction, and operate the facility
  • Coordinate with the project team to ensure that needed permits are renewed before expiration
  • Become familiar with bureaucratic controls and restrictions such as building codes, (National Fluid Power Association) NFPA, life safety codes, National Electric Code (NEC), and environmental codes

Requests for Information (RFI)

  • Maintain RFI log
  • Receive and log RFI’s and distribute RFI’s and RFI log to project team
  • Record response from REG team members in electronic tracking system and distribute RFI to contractors and vendors

Risk Management

  • Maintain a complete understanding of the budget and how it was developed to ensure REG goals for the project are obtained

Scheduling

  • Assist in the development of job preconstruction schedule
  • Update the project schedule as required

Submittals

  • Complete submittal log or ensure contractors complete their own submittal logs
  • Expedite receipt of submittals from contractors and vendors
  • Receive, date and log all submittals and shop drawings
  • Distribute submittal log to project team
  • Keep REG team members apprised of schedule for submittals
  • Forward submittals to REG team members, other contractors and vendors for review
  • Expedite return of submittal from REG team members, other contractors and vendors
  • Returned submittals from REG team members or other contractors and vendors require corrections and re-submittal, expedite re-submittal

Billings

  • Maintain pay application checklist for insurance, change orders and contracts
  • Create new vendor form and obtain new vendor W-9
  • Develop contractor schedule of values for pay applications with the contractor to ensure that REG captures historical job cost for future estimating
  • Review and process payments to material vendors and contractors and return the process payments to Accounts Payable prior to the close each month
Perform other duties as assigned

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Required: 4 year bachelor’s degree - Construction, Civil, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or related degree

Experience Required:  3-5 years in construction management

Skills Required

Advanced Excel skills

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Extensive math and basic financial analysis abilities

Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project, Visio)

Strong organization skills

Strong technical background

Enterprise-level databases (JD Edwards, Maximo, SAP, etc.)

Special skills or knowledge preferred:

3-D modeling (SolidWorks, Autodesk, Navisworks)
