Job Description

REG is seeking a motivated Scientist to join its Metabolic Engineering team to participate in the engineering and optimization of enzymes, metabolic pathways, and industrial microorganisms for the production renewable fuels and chemicals. The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to plan and execute high quality, creative scientific work independently and in collaboration with others.

In-depth knowledge and hands on experience in developing and using state of the art synthetic biology techniques is required. In-depth knowledge of genetic engineering of bacteria, yeast/fungi, metabolic flux analysis, metabolic pathway elucidation and functional characterization of novel enzymes is advantageous. Industrial and/or academic experience and familiarity with the automation of synthetic biology and analytical processes, high-through-put and automation workflows is highly desirable.


  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Synthetic Biology, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry or related discipline with 2-5 years of academic or industrial experience.*Experience may substitute for some education
  • Proficiency in state-of-the-art molecular biology techniques
  • Proficiency with Synthetic Biology and gene regulation techniques and principles
  • Familiarity with metabolic modeling tools
  • Working knowledge of high-throughput screening / familiarity with robotic systems and analytic methods
  • Must be able to perform daily functions independently with little to no instructions on routine work, and with general instructions on new assignments. 
  • Excellent oral and writing communication skills 
  • Able to organize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously to meet deadlines and excel in a fast-paced team environment
  • Demonstrated success on working productively independently and in a team set up
  • Able to work daily and overtime as required
  • Able to travel to REG headquarters, other REG offices and other locations as required
  • Ability to legally start work within two months
