Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE:

The purpose of this position is to (1) develop documentation for agency permits and regulatory reporting requirements, (2) provide technical environmental support to production and corporate personnel, (3) monitor environmental regulations and provide technical support to plant and corporate personnel to ensure compliance with Federal and State environmental regulations.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

CONFIDENTIALITY: This position will have access to information that is confidential to the operations of the company.  That information must be held in highest confidence and failure to do so will result in disciplinary action which may include termination of employment.

Compliance

  • Prepare or provide input on other’s work for permit applications and documentation necessary for regulatory programs applicable to the Company’s  processing plants in the program areas of air quality, waste water, storm water, solid waste, hazardous waste and/or spill prevention
  • Prepare company response to regulatory agency’s information requests
  • Perform facility compliance audits
  • Work with Local, State, and Federal environmental agencies on rule making that may affect the Company’s operating procedures, reporting or operational plans
  • Where possible, reduce the cost of compliance

Technical Regulatory Support

  • Provide technical regulatory support to facility Plant Managers, EHS Coordinators, Engineers as well as to corporate personnel
  • Develop positive relationships with regulatory personnel where REG conducts business
  • Provide professional input in the development of company goals as they pertain to regulatory requirements of business opportunities

Other frequent duties

  • Supervise, direct and coordinate activities of staff engaged in the implementation of environmental regulatory requirements
  • Demonstrate ability to understand the manufacturing processes
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively enlist needed cooperation in implementing regulatory requirements

Perform other duties as assigned


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Required: Bachelor’s degree or higher – Engineering, Chemistry or related degree. 

Experience Required:  Minimum 8 years experience with environmental compliance permitting and reporting in industry, consulting, or government with preference to experience with environmental compliance requirements applicable to agricultural processing, petroleum, or chemical industries.

Skills Required

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of organic chemistry
  • Extensive math and analytical skills
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio)

Special skills or knowledge preferred:

German Language skills
